Part 2 of this week's #WBW comes from a New York group that should have released another album by now but they have taken their respected paths in music & life...Black Star [Mos Def & Talib Kweli]. The track "Definition" by the Hip Hop duo comes off of their first and only self titled album Mos Def & Talib Kweli are Black Star in 1998. "Definition" is definitely one of those feel good tracks of the late 90's. It has an island feel to it but still gives you that boom bap beat, which is signature for New York MCs. Not to mention, it's a track with a message. Mos & Talib feed off of each other to bring a message of what Hip Hop was displaying and how it was affecting other in that time period. I just wish they would have dropped more albums as Black Star. Either way, they both became successful as individuals. "Definition" contains 3 samples from Boogie Down Productions: "Remix For P IS Free", "Stop The Violence" & "The Bridge Is Over". Way to cut up samples huh? Even with only one album, Black Star will remain as one of the dopest Hip Hop duo to do it.
Nuu Elementz is an up and coming Hip-Hop organization created by Lance Farmer/DJ Lidz. This organization's motto is "Creating a new generation of Hip-Hop heads". The mission is to preserve the past generations of Hip Hop while embracing the new generation of Hip Hop. Let's get back to what made us fall in love with Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is more than money, clothes, cars and women...Its a culture.
