When you think of the "Golden Era" of Hip Hop and all of its acts, Gang Starr should be a group that automatically pops up into your head. Gang Starr is essential to Hip Hop as a whole, that's why their cut "Just To Get A Rep" is this week's #WayBackWednesday. New York based Gang Starr is complied of MC & DJ duo Guru & DJ Premier. Getting their start in 1989, they became a household name right from the start. "Just To Get A Rep", off of their sophomore LP Step In The Arena, is an anthem for those who came in the inner city communities. Sampling Jean Jacques Perrey's "EVA", the track is a story of what young cats would do just to establish a name in his respected neightborhood, a track that's still relevant til this day. Crazy how Gang Starr only were in the Hip Hop for 10 years but their impact is infinite. Tragically, Guru passed away in 2010 but Gang Starr still lives through DJ Premier and Hip Hop heads all over the world.
