Way Back Wednesday: "Juice [Know The Ledge]" - Eric B & Rakim

This week's WBW comes from the legendary Hip Hop pioneers Eric B & Rakim for their cut 1991 "Juice" from the soundtrack of the film Juice starring Omar Epps & Tupac Shakur. Eric B & Rakim were the perfect artist to be featured on the Juice soundtrack for this title track. Eric B being the DJ and Rakim being the MC for those that don't know. Rakim, known as one of the first lyrical MCs, gave such a story and imagery through his words on this track about a young thug/drug dealer who was forced to be what he is based on his surrounds. It fit perfect wit the film like 2 puzzles fitting together. Rakim's storytelling ability was definitely shown in this track. Juice, (the film) released in early 1992, is a film about the lives of 4 black teens in Harlem and the troubles the come across and create for themselves. Produced by Eric B, Rakim did some live drums on the track and it contains samples of Nat Adderly's "Rise, Sally Rise", Sly Johnson's "I Feel The Urge" and "Celebrating the Good Things" by Pleasure. Cuts and scratches done by Eric B. This came to be one of the last hits Eric B & Rakim made together. They may not be together anymore but Eric B & Rakim will be remember for this record forever.
