Way Back Wednesday: The Bridge Is Over - Boogie Down Productions

This week's Way Back Wednesday goes to a classic Hip Hop track from 1987 by Brooklyn's own Boogie Down Productions entitled "The Bridge Is Over". Hip Hop back in the 80's started to being very competitive. Artists from Queens such as Run DMC, LL Cool J and MC Shan, etc were running Hip Hop and they made it known that they were. KRS-One of Boogie Down Productions didn't take too kindly to this, hence the track "The Bridge Is Over". This track has gone down in history as one of the best diss track in Hip Hop. Recently, this track was sampled in the Pusha T My Name Is My Name track "Nosetalgia" featuring Kendrick Lamar. Boogie Down Productions will be remember solely for this track for a long time. Produced by the legendary No I.D. Big Sean starts this track off with a 2 minute fury of bars then comes the most talked about verse of the year by  Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick Lamar spits some of the meanest lines we've ever heard from him in this verse where starts to drop names of MC he is going to be better than including Big Sean. Least but not least, Jay Electronica comes in and spits one of his most lyrical verse in recent time. Big Sean definitely had master plan for this track and accomplished it's mission because everyone was talking about this song, mainly Kendrick's verse. This cut from their summer album Random Access Memories, show us why they are the one of the best music groups ever. The beat composed by Daft Punk and it contains synths, bass, claps and kicks as would a average Hip Hop track would but they stayed true to who they are. Daft Punk gets mad props for this one. P.S. Pick Of The Day: Life Under The Scope - Curren$y

Today's Pick Of The Day goes to the always dope Curren$y for his cut entitled "Life Under The Scope". This track released back in 2009, a few months before his album Pilot Talk released in 2010. That album was sorta of comeback for Spitta because that album put him on a whole new level. "Life Under The Scope" was the first single off of Pilot Talk and produced by the legendary Ski Beatz as well as the whole album. Also, the visuals were shot the day the song was recorded. The beat contains some poly-technical horns with a clap along with the beats and cords from a xylophone. Curren$y is still at it, being one of the most consistent MCs in the game. Back before Yeezy's released his critically acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, every Friday, he would release a new track and this is one of those track. This cut features former G.O.O.D. Music artist Kid Cudi, current G.O.O.D. Music artists PushaT, John Legend, G-Unit's Lyoyd Banks and singer, song writer, and producer Ryan Leslie. Produced Kanye West and Ryan Leslie, the beat contain some strong strings and light kicks and snare with John Legend singing over the hook. Now this is what I call an "All-Star" track. Today's Pick Of The Day goes to possibly the best song A$AP Rocky has come up with, "1Train" featuring verse from the some of the leaders of new school. This cut features very solid verses from Kendrick Lamar, Joey Bada$$, Yelawolf, Danny Brown, Action Bronson & Big K.R.I.T. This track doesn't get as much recognition as it should but Hip Hop needed this one. It's very rare these days when a group of MCs, all from different backgrounds, get on a track and actually rhyme like they are passionate about Hip Hop. Produced by former G.O.O.D. music artist, Hit-Boy, the beat contains some heavy violin chords and that rugged 'boom bap' beat over the strings. We give A$AP Rocky the utmost respect for bringing all these MCs together for this raw cut. Leave your comment about this track below.

For those who just got hip to the genius that is Kendrick Lamar last year, he has been making an impact on this game for a while now. Today's Pick Of The Day goes his track "Poe Man's Dreams(His Vice)" off of his hit 2011 project Section.80. Kendrick Lamar is an insanely lyrical MC from Compton, California who's story telling skills are putting him up among some of the greats already. This track is describing exactly what the title implies. Someone who's stuck in the poverty driven lifestyle dreaming about what life could be. The production, by TDE's Willie B, has a main 'boom bap' beat with strange organ notes over it. Also, former G.O.O.D. music artist GLC spits some poetry at the end of this cut. This track makes you think about what others in this situation my be going through. For that, we thank you Kendrick.
