During the highly proclaimed New York Fashion Week, the most stylish DJ's were on the one's and two's.
You may have recognized some of the run way models behind the turntables.
Fashion Week DJ's are hired to play cutting-edge beats all while looking like models.
Some models even started off modeling as DJ's.
DJ Chelsea Leyland a got modeling job because she was a female DJ.
"When I first started DJing, it was somewhat novel to see a stylish woman behind the turntables," said the fashionista.
There's a school in Brooklyn that teaches models the record-spinning skills they need.
STADJ started six years ago teaching models everything from how to build a playlist to scratching and using special equipment.
STADJ provides live DJ experiences at premium venues. It aims to forge an education system recognized by the academic music world as the learning example for taking beginner to expertise.
"DJs are also creating the aesthetic atmosphere and a big part of that is looking good in the designer's clothing," said
DJ May Kwok.
Kwok has DJed for many designers. Because of her eclectic taste in music, along with her edgy style and model looks, the Queens native was a highly requested during in Fashion Week.
DJs provide the music for runway shows and are responsible for the overall feeling of the event with their looks.
STADJ have ,many contracts with top modeling agencies.
Kwok said that while looking good was important, creating dope playlists must come first.
